SGN's Holiday Guide 1999

Unsure of what games to buy? Don't want to read the reviews? Well, we knew some of you would be unsure what to buy and don't have the time to read the reviews for all of the games. We at SGN put together a holiday guide which includes our Top 5 sports videogames for each system on the market this holiday shopping season.

Top 5 PC Sports Titles
Top 5 Dreamcast Sports Titles
Top 5 Playstation Sports Titles
Top 5 Nintendo 64 Sports Titles

1. NFL 2K (DC)
On one hand, NFL 2K does so many things so much better than any football game before it that it's hard not to love. On the other, it disappoints in many areas as a simulation while being frustratingly close to perfection. However, the most exciting thing about NFL 2K is that Visual Concepts have advanced videogame football in ways that were previously unimaginable and, in the process, have created an incredibly solid foundation from which to build. Currently, the top sports game for the Dreamcast.
2. NBA 2K (DC)
Good gameplay along with amazing graphics and audio makes this game a must buy for any console basketball gamers.
3. Hydro Thunder (DC)
Hydro Thunder is very successful at what it attempts to do; offer you power boat-racing thrills in a pure arcade setting. As a port of the arcade classic, it is almost perfect. Had Midway added more features to the Dreamcast version, it would have made a home console classic out of an arcade classic. As it is, Hydro Thunder may disappoint in a few areas, but on the whole, this is a great arcade racing game.
4. Bass Fishing (DC)
This game has won praise from just about everyone who has had a chance to play the game. A little more development time on this game and it could have become a classic in the fishing category.
5. Ready 2 Rumble (DC)
Ready 2 Rumble comes with loads of exciting action. While the game lacks depth, it is very enjoyable inviting friends over and knocking them out cold...in Ready 2 Rumble.
Wildcards
A title to keep an eye out for is Sega Rally 2 which comes out during the second week of December. The game has already gotten great reviews from the mags and online sites.
