Food City 250
Kahne passes Newman with eight to go for victory at Food City 250. Jason Leffler, David Reutimann, Kyle Busch and Scott Wimmer rounded out the 2nd through 5th spots respectively. NASCAR made a scoring mistake against Kyle Busch, who was penalized with only 77 laps left. He dropped from 2nd all the way to 28th. Busch managed to get back to 4th position at the end.
The three largest racing series that NASCAR sanctions are the NEXTEL Cup, the Busch Series and the Craftsman Truck Series. NASCAR is the 2nd largest sport as far as TV ratings behind the NFL. There are only 75 million NASCAR fans nationwide.
Carl Edwards clinched a spot in the Chase by winning at Bristol. Jeff Burton did not like the comment about last year's Chase being less entertaining because the drivers were "so careful they lost some of the aggressiveness that makes this half-mile haven in the Tennessee hills".
Dale Earnhardt Jr. climbed from his Chevrolet and donned a blue ball cap with a white "M" that fit his mood after the race ended in the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. He finished 5th, his chances in making the chase is slowly fading away and he knows that.
