FIFA 2000 (PC) Hands-on Preview
FIFA 2000 contains a lot of "detailed" improvements, which may be overlooked, but the sum of the new improvements add up to give the game a different feel. The game has 15 different leagues including the addition of the Major League Soccer from the US and there are also 40 classic league teams if you want to browse through the "good ole days." EA has crammed in enough modes of play such as training, leagues, and tournaments to keep users busy for months. Graphics are stunning as usual from the EA camp. The players are more animated which are really noticed during cut scenes. The players also have some new facial features such as hair color and facial hair. The in-game menus are easy to navigate through and arranged nicely. Stadiums are even better and now the crowd is really into the match as you can see them jumping in the stands in support for their team. Sound and other audio features are top-notch. EA has redone the commentary for the US version of the game and added Julie Foudy of the US Women's National Team and Phil Schoen of the popular sports channel ESPN. The crowd noise and chants are taken to a new level, especially when the crowd animation is activated in the game. It really tweaks more and more realism out of the game. The AI has somehow become even stronger and more aggressive. Setting up plays requires more thinking, but do not "go to the well" all the time, as the AI seems to learn your pattern and the play which worked before will be quickly broken up. EA has taken a page from its NHL series and added collisions, shoving, and other heavy contact in the game. It can really get ugly on the field now to create rivalries between teams. EA has also increased the chance of injuries on the field and this leads to multiple games with a player missing from the lineup. They have included new cut scenes to show the injured player rolling on the field in agony. EA has re-tooled its champion to take on all comers. At first glance, FIFA 2000's new features, some of which I have mentioned here, lead to a overall better quality to the game. EA Sports has raised the bar and now the competition has to enter the ring and take on the champ. © 1998-2006 Sports Gaming Network. Entire legal statement. Feedback
