Grand Prix Legends InterviewSGN: 11. Will there be a Grand Prix Legends 2? Matt: That depends largely on sales. If it makes sense, we might do it, but right now there are no plans for a sequel. SGN: 12. Why was there no Direct 3D support included out-of-the-box (only 3Dfx and Rendition)? Do you feel that it's an inferior technology, too much of a trade-off? Matt: By the time we realized it was an important feature, it was too late to make the initial release. We have been working with OpenGL post-release and are releasing (today, in fact) a beta OpenGL driver which works with the RivaTNT-based cards. We may broaden that support in the future, but again, no promises. :-) SGN: 13. Explain a little about the differences between Direct Input and Generic, between Linear and Non-linear, and provide some advice for our readers who are having a hard time choosing between them. Matt:
The DirectInput driver is fine for most people, but on some machines you may
see improved control stability with the Generic driver, *provided* that it
works on your machine.
Non-linear steering is basically just a way to reduce steering sensitivity
around the middle of the joystick's or steering wheel's travel. Generally
speaking, if using a joystick for steering control, you want it to be more
non-linear. With a wheel device, you go more towards linear. But it's really
down to personal preference. I know people who use full Linear steering with a
joystick and do quite well.
SGN: 14. In this era of sold-separately game guides, was it a hard sell with Sierra to include Steve Smith's excellent driving guide "Four-Wheel Drift"? It seems like you get a lot for your money in this package. Matt: No selling required, actually. GPL is obviously quite challenging, so we wanted to try and give players as much help with it as we could. © 1998-2006 Sports Gaming Network. Entire legal statement. Feedback
