Tony Hawk Pro Skater (PSX) PreviewBackground Info
The game will have an easy-to-learn trick and combo system, as well as open-ended tracks along with multiplayer capabilties. One of the fastest-growing sports, skateboarding boasts more than nine million enthusiasts in the United States alone.
Tony Hawk not only stars in the game, but he is helping to create authentic gameplay in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. The game will have 10 realistic courses. Among the courses are pool parks, downhill courses and half-pipes, plus street courses, such as a school, a downtown area as well as a shopping mall. Each non-linear path is littered with secret areas, shortcuts, ramps and interactive objects—allowing players to trick off of just about everything.
Players will be able to work their way up the ranks, performing suicidal stunts and entering brutal competitions in an effort to become the highest-rated skating champ. There are hundreds of motion-captured move combinations and stunts. Gamers will be able to perform combos on-the-fly which include aris, grabs, slides, grinds, kick-flips and landing tricks.
Pro Skater supposedly has an intuitive interface and easy learning curve which will allow players to gradually progress to more difficult moves.
Another feature is the head-to-head competition that will be in the game. Players will be able to compete on split-screen on points and time attack modes, and also the Half-Pipe Challenge. The game will also have a single-player career mode in which skaters perform stunts and enter competitions in an effort to be the best there is. An additional feature is the realism that the game will have. Falls and accidents will result in face plants, scrapes and broken bones!
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is due out sometime in September later this year. The announcement of Pro Skater can only mean good for the skating gaming genre and bring excitement to fans. There aren't a lot of skating games out there right now. As a matter of fact, Street Sk8er is the only one.
