Mad Catz's MicroCON (PS2) Controller Review

Mad Catz recently released a MicroCON Playstation 2 controller. This controller is a little smaller than the original best-selling Sony controller, but it takes a little bit of time to adjust to the smaller controller. Even after a number of hours with the controller, it still does not feel as good as the Sony controllers.

The rubber grips on the left and right side of the controller improves the comfort level. They make it less painful after a number of hours of playing the Playstation 2. The slightly longer cord definitely adds value to the controller.

The analog stick and buttons are well-responsive and work great. The only exception comes when you need to click the right or left analog stick. Also known as the L3 and R3 buttons, these sometimes aren't as responsive to your actions as they should be.

The MicroCON also comes with a macro option to program combinations, but I found no use for that feature as a person who only plays sports games.

Overall, the MicroCON PS2 controller can be worth the purchase if you are looking for something that will save you money. I've found it at places like Best Buy for as low as 15 dollars. I personally would stick with the Sony Dual Shock 2 controllers instead. I'm not sure why the quality of the PS2 and Xbox MicroCON controller differs by so much. The Xbox MicroCON controller is the main controller I regularly use while the PS2 MicroCON controller would be a controller I let one of my friends use.

The controller also comes in a couple of different colors, which might appeal to the young PS2 gamers. So if you need an extra PS2 controller for your kid or little brother or sister, the Mad Catz MicroCON controller could be something you look into.
