Mad Catz Gamecube Cubicon (Gamecube) Review

Price is always a factor when it comes down to purchasing controllers. Nintendo's OEM controller is 10 to 15 dollars more expensive than the third-party controller by Mad Catz, the Gamecube Cubicon.

Mad Catz's Gamecube Cubicon is a little bigger than Nintendo's own controller for the Gamecube. Simple rubber grips on the left and right side of the Cubicon definitely add comfort to the controller.

Another positive with the Cubicon is the improved Z-button support. Mad Catz decided to add another Z-button on the left side. This makes it much more accessible to the gamer. In addition, there is also a programmable macro button on the Cubicon. This doesn't really serve a purpose when it comes down to sports games. Worth a mention though.

The D-pad is also a bit larger than the original Nintendo Gamecube controller. The Nintendo Gamecube controller's D-pad is a bit small. This is probably due to their expectations that little kids' hands would be using the controller.

There is always a downside when it comes to controllers. I found the analogs on the Cubicon to be a bit stiff. This forces the gamer to put more effort into moving around with the analog. The buttons also require a bit more effort.

Overall, the Mad Catz Gamecube Cubicon controller can be a good fit for people with larger hands who dislike Nintendo's controller. The major setbacks with the Cubicon lie in the stiffer analog control and buttons. If you prefer a tigher analog control with a more comfortable grip, Mad Catz's Cubicon, which comes with a lifetime warrenty, is definitely your choice.
