I don't used created players that much but I'll try and give you some clues. OK, when you get into the main menu go to rosters. Load your created players from memory card. Go to waivers and add your player/s to the waiver list. Then put them into the team of your choice. I haven't done this myself but I guess it would work. Write back if you have any problems.
Also here is a hint (if you like cheating!). If you find yourself behind in a match press start. Go to controller select and swap teams. Press start and get back into the game you're playing. Hit start again and pull their goalie. Get back into the game and press start yet again to bring up the menu. Swap back to your original team and have a gaping cave to aim the puck at. I even scored with Ed Belfour!
