NFL Blitz Interview
SGN: 9. Does Midway plan to produce similiar games for the other sports?
Mark/Sal:
Yes. NBA on NBC is our next game out the door, and it is incredible. We have both the NBA license and now, an exclusive NBC license. This gives the game a very network/broadcast feel. Other sports are being developed also, but we can't talk about them just yet. SGN: 10. Did you have any part in producing or developing the Kordell Stewart TV commercial? (the one with him picking band members off):)
Mark/Sal:
We chose that commercial idea from a group of ideas that the advertising agency presented to us. Sal attended the filming of the commercial and threw a few of the balls himself. SGN: 11. What is your favorite NFL team?
Mark: The Detroit Lions are my team. They are stronger than the statistics show in the game.
SGN: 12.
What was your fondest memory while working on NFL Blitz?
Mark/Sal:
The process of putting in new sequences of moves, and seeing other people's reaction to those moves when they see them for the first time. Gambling. In general, seeing all of the ideas come to fruition. It was very gratifying to make a football game that was actually fun to play. Four-player Blitz '99 is a riot, by the way.
SGN: 13.
Any last comments you wish to add?
Mark/Sal:
We HATE all of the simulator style sports games out there. We just like fast action game play that is easy to pick up. We think we can walk the fine line of having lots of depth, and yet having arcade style gameplay on all of our sports games.
We would like to thank Mark, Sal and Christine in providing assistance to us for this interview. Thanks guys!
