Microsoft Baseball 3D (PC) InterviewSGN recently did an interview with Howard Phillips, who's the product unit manager for all of Microsoft's sports titles. He took time off his busy schedule to share some of his answers with SGN.
SGN : 1) Could you tell us a little about yourself. Like how long you have been working for Microsoft, why you got into this line of work?
Howard : I began my games career at Nintendo in 1981. I worked there for ten years before moving on in 1991. After working several more years for various console game publishers and developers, I found myself attracted to the sophistication of PC games and the radical advancements in PC processing and graphics horsepower. I've been with Microsoft for two years now.
SGN : 2) Approximately how many people were on the Microsoft Baseball 3D development team?
Howard : 72 Microsoft (program management, design, graphics and animation, test, stadiums creation, motion capture, studio time, on-site photographing) and 12 Wizbang (engine development, coding) worked on the creation of Baseball 3D. SGN : 3) How long did it take for the game to be completed?
Howard :The project was kicked off in January of 1996. As an all original product, Baseball 3D took 28 months to complete from initial design to release to manufacturing.
