FOX SPORTS Major League Baseball 2001 (PSX) PreviewRelease Date: Spring 2000
This game has officially been cancelled by Fox Sports. As regular readers of our site know, sports gaming companies like to release new versions of their games right before the beginning of the season which the game purports to simulate. And, to clarify which version you have, they are fond of appending the current year to the name of the game. So, it should be no surprise what the name of Fox Sports' spring offering will be: Fox Sports Major League Baseball 2001. The game will be officially licensed by the MLB and MLBPA, meaning all the MLBPA players and MLB teams will be in the game. The New Pac-Bell Park And Comerica Park along with all the other stadiums will be in Fox's Major League Baseball 2001. Of course, Fox Sports' broadcast presentation style are planned. Fox plans to duplicate their MLB on FOX presentation into the game. Pre-Game, Play-By-Play, And Post-Game Analysis are from Emmy-Nominated FOX Sports Announcers Tim McCarver and Joe Buck. Prefer Spanish? Fox even plans to have Spanish Play-By-Play. Hall of Fame Dodger announcer, Jaime Jarrin will have the honors. Among the various presentation features, FOX Sports "Sounds Of The Game" ™ and FOX Scope™ Replays will be included as well. Fox is saying Major League Baseball 2001 will have an advanced physics engine that will allow for realistic player control. Hundreds of different defensive and offensive animations can be expected. The list includes, flip throws, diving stops, and home run saving grabs. It will be interesting to see how successful the home run saving catches will be. The ablitiy to make those catches are very important as it can determine the outcome of any game. Although not much info is available on how deep the management side of the game will be, we do know that player, team and user stats will be all kept. Roster management will include total control of the line-up plus substitutions. Users will be able to create, edit and trade players. In game features include altering line-ups and defensive strategies. The players will be modeled to react realisticly against both right and left-handed pitchers; whatever that means. The game will have distinctive pitching styles and selection that we see in real baseball. Fatigue and injuries are also included. Among the modes of play are: Exhibition, Season, Playoffs, World Series, Home Run Derby. Noticied there is no career mode. Career mode is almost a must now for sports games nowadays.
That is about all the info Fox has released so far. More news concerning the game should be out shortly and as always, we will be bringing our readers all the news.
